Window air conditioner rating and reviews
Window air conditioner consumer advice, how to select the right
A/C size for your room. A/C reviews and ratings
Window air conditioner is great to cool one room in the. It would
be more economical choice than running a central air conditioning
unit. First the initial cost is lower and, second, it will cost
less to operate in the long run.
Most window air conditioners sit in a window or hole in the wall
where they can exhaust warm air to the outside. Window installations
have one disadvantage - it can be drafty. But at the end of the
warm weather season some people remove the unit from the window
and store it for the winter. Wall through room air conditioners
are built into the wall for a more permanent installation. Air conditioners
remove both heat and humidity.
Size is important, when choosing a room air conditioner,. A unit
that is too small for your room will run continually but still won’t
cool the room effectively. And if you buy a unit that's too large
for the space you're cooling, it actually will not be more effective
than window A/C that's the correct size. Bigger doesn’tnecessarily
mean better.
Larger units cost more and use additional energy. Also if it keeps
switching on and off, it can’t dehumify the air effectively.
Running a smaller unit for a longer period of time will use less
energy to cool a room than running a larger unit for a shorter time.
There are many window air conditioner brands. Models with best
cooling capasity, energy efficiency and low noise are by Carrier,
Sanyo, Trane, Goodman, Delonghi, Samsung and Mitsubishi.
You should also consider an air conditioner's EER - Energy Efficiency
Ratio. The Higher the EER number, more effective is the unit and
less it will cost you to operate. The EER approximates the unit's
operating cost comparing to similar models. 12 or higher is considered
a good number.
Also look for A/C units with Energy Star. A new energy-saver feature
cycles the compressor off and on, as a result it doesn't operate
continuously, which reduces your operating costs.
Also look for window units that have three-speed fan controls
which allow you to adjust the amount of cool air the unit produces.
Some room air conditioners also have timers that allow you to set
the time you want the unit to come on and off, so it isn't governed
by the temperature of the room alone.
